To complete a concentration, students must complete specific classes listed unless noted otherwise on the M.S.A. plan of work. Students can only declare one M.S.A. concentration. A list of approved concentration requirements can be found on our website.
Eligibility:
- Only students enrolled in the M.S.A. program are eligible to add an accounting concentration
- You must be in good academic standing and making satisfactory academic progress with a minimum 3.0 GPA
- Concentration requests must be completed and submitted a semester/term before you apply for graduation. Once your graduation audit has started, you may no longer declare a concentration.
- Students cannot earn graduate credit for accounting subjects they completed during previous studies and should speak with an advisor regarding course substitution options.
M.S.A. Concentrations
Professional Accounting concentration: Intended primarily for students holding bachelor's degrees in business or economics (other than accounting majors) who wish to become "CPA-ready" by meeting the educational requirements in the State of Michigan to sit for the CPA exam and become certified. Please note: Students who have a degree in accounting should not be completing the Professional Accounting Concentration. You must complete a concentration in either Financial Reporting/Auditing or Taxation only.
Financial Reporting and Auditing concentration: Intended primarily for students who were undergraduate accounting majors and plan to pursue careers in public, corporate or governmental accounting.
Taxation concentration: Intended primarily for students who were undergraduate accounting majors and plan to pursue careers in taxation. This M.S.A. concentration replaces the Ilitch School's M.S.T. program.
