2024 Wayne State University Spring/Summer Intern Housing Application and Contract

Thank you for your interest in intern housing at Wayne State University. Wayne State is a premier research university located in the University Cultural Center in the heart of Detroit's Midtown neighborhood. 

Before you electronically sign, read this contract and the appropriate web page sections of the WSU Community Living Guide and the Student Code of Conduct carefully as they are a part of this contract. All interns living in campus housing agree to abide by the Community Living Guide and the Student Code of Conduct. You should be familiar with the contents of both, as you will be held responsible for your actions.

We are happy that you have chosen to stay with us. Let's get started with the application process.

To complete this application, you will need the following:
*Photo of yourself.
*Proof of student status from your academic institution.
*Offer letter from your internship employer.
*$50 nonrefundable intern application fee.

Personal Information

Have you ever applied to be, currently are or been a WSU student or residential intern? *
Have you ever been convicted of, pled guilty to, or pled no contest to a criminal offense excluding alcohol? For example, drugs, theft, assault, battery, criminal sexual conduct, stalking, arson, threats against people or property, etc. *
Have you ever been expelled, dismissed, suspended or placed on disciplinary probation by any college, university or secondary school? *
Are there any criminal charges pending against you? *

Convicted sex offenders are not eligible to reside in University housing. If the University learns that a current or pending resident is a convicted sex offender, this license agreement will be canceled. If such cancellation occurs prior to the start date of the Occupancy Period, you will only be responsible for the non-refundable application fee. If such cancelation occurs during the Occupancy Period, you will be required to move out within 24 hours and will be responsible for room and meal plan (if applicable) costs through the end of the contract period in which such cancellation occurs.

WSU OneCard and Photo Upload Process

The WSU OneCard is an all-in-one, multipurpose identification card. Your OneCard gives you access to your housing building, your apartment, and parking (if elected). If you lose your OneCard, the replacement fee is $20.

Let's review what makes an acceptable ID photo.
• A color photo on a solid color background.
• JPG format, with no borders and no filters. HEIC images are not acceptable.
• Photo must show your full face, the top of shoulders to the top your head, with some blank space above the head.
• Photo must show you looking straight at the camera (No side profiles or extreme close ups).
• Photo should not include other people, animals, props, etc.
• No hats/headpieces (unless worn for religious purposes), sunglasses, jewelry, or garments that obstruct the view of your face.
• Selfies are ok as long as you meet the above criteria.

Housing Information

Apartment-style housing is available at Anthony Wayne Drive Apartments on a first come, first served basis. In the event that your choice of apartment is not available, the next closest apartment style will be assigned. All apartments have a full-size bed, private bathroom, an in-unit kitchen with refrigerator, stove, microwave and dishwasher. There is a shared laundry facility on most floors. A minimum 50% deposit is required in order to receive a housing assignment. The remaining balance will be due prior to the halfway point of your stay.

In the event that your choice of apartment style is not available, the next closest apartment style will be assigned. All apartments have a full size bed, bedroom, private bathroom, and in-unit kitchen with refrigerator, stove, microwave and dishwasher. There is a shared laundry facility on most floors.

Linens

Parking Information

Overnight parking is available in parking structure #2 which is located adjacent to Anthony Wayne Drive Apartments. It is open around the clock, 7 days a week. Interns residing on campus can park at a discounted rate of $7 per night. In order to receive the special discounted rate, parking will be billed from your contracted move-in date to your contracted move-out date regardless of how many nights you actually park in the structure.

Meal Plans

Tower's Café is located on the first floor of the Towers Residential Suites. It offers fresh food, varied choices and is a great value. Enjoy hearty homestyle dishes, a great salad bar, brick oven pizza, delicious desserts and more. Meal plans can be encoded onto your access card and are subject to Towers Café hours of operation. Each meal plan block provides the designated number of visits to the all you care to eat dining hall.

Intern Housing Application Fee

A $50 nonrefundable application processing fee must be paid at the time you submit your intern housing application. Click here http://commerce.cashnet.com/1housing to begin. Acceptable forms of payment are personal check or credit card(s). Credit card payments will incur a nonrefundable vendor service fee. Submit the payment receipt number below.

Cancellation Policy

Written cancellation of this contract three or more business days prior to contracted move in date will result in a full refund of all monies paid excluding credit card service fees and application fee. Cancellation two days or less prior to contracted move in date or after key/card pick up will result in no refund being issued.

Change Fees

If you need to make any changes to this agreement after you have already submitted it, DO NOT complete another application. Email changes to Chris Bowen at ab0227@wayne.edu or Charity Coleman at charity@wayne.edu. Any changes after the contract has been submitted, will result in a $35 added charge.

Additional Terms and Conditions

Although COVID-19 vaccines are not required, the WSU Campus Health Committee strongly recommends remaining up to date on vaccines and boosters. WSU will continue to monitor state and regional data, as well as new guidance from the CDC and information concerning new variants or other risks and may amend these requirements as necessary.

WSU may, at any time, suspend any rules and regulations outlined in the Community Living Guide during COVID-19 or other public health emergency if it is in the best interest of mitigating spread and keeping residents safe.

Intern Housing Agreement

The Intern agrees to hold harmless the Board of Governors of the Wayne State University, and their officers, employees, and agents and to indemnify the same from any and all liability, including claims, demands, cost, damages, and expenses of every kind and description (including death) by the Intern or others in the residence hall or any location, structure, or vehicle managed by Housing and Residential Life including Housing and Residential Life sponsored events and/or activities as a result of Intern’s acts or omissions, including those that relate to changes or modification made by the Intern to their room or furnishings such as bookshelves, partitions, or other structures. This clause makes the Intern financially responsible to the Board of Governors of WSU, WSU and its employees and agents in the event of any claims against them. It is further agreed that the Intern accepts all such responsibility for the Intern’s guests. WSU Housing and Residential Life reserves the right to temporarily suspend the performance of this contract without notice in the event of an emergency which would render the continued operation of the residence hall not feasible. If such an event lasts more than three days, the unused room payment will be refunded. Housing and Residential Life accepts contracts and assigns rooms without regard to race, color, creed or national origin.
