Wayne State University College of Nursing - 2025 Urban Health Research Conference - Call for Abstracts

The Wayne State University College of Nursing is now accepting abstracts for the 2025 Urban Health Research Conference, Contemporary Issues in Urban Health: Advancing Health Equity through Community Engaged Research and Innovation held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

CONFERENCE THEME: 2025 conference will focus on developing partnerships between researchers, clinicians, and community members to promote health and advance health equity. Learner outcomes include:

  1. Explore the meaning and importance of community engagement and community-participatory research.
  2. Discuss the impact of community engagement in determining the feasibility of nursing interventions. 
  3. Describe strategies to encourage vulnerable populations to participate in health research.
  4. Describe strategies to develop collaborative relationships with community health centers.

ABSTRACT CALL: Abstracts on all aspects of nursing and health are welcome, but those with a focus on urban health are preferred. Reports of completed research, quality improvement/evidence-based practice projects, and literature reviews are acceptable. Abstracts for the conference will be selected for poster presentation. All those whose abstracts are accepted should plan to present in person at the conference on Wayne State’s campus in Midtown Detroit.  

FORMAT:  Abstracts are limited to 250 words. Structure abstracts using the following headings: 

  • Research: Background, Purpose/Aims, Methods, Results, Conclusion, Implications.
  • Quality Improvement/Evidence-Based Practice: Background, Purpose, Implementation, Outcomes, Conclusion, Implications/Sustainability.
  • Literature Review: Background, Type of Review, Search Question/Strategy, Review process, Synthesis of Findings, Conclusions, Implications. 

Note: abstracts cannot contain images, graphics or tables, and work must not have been published previously

SUBMISSION: To submit your abstract, please complete the form below. Abstracts must be submitted online in both authored and blinded versions. In addition, the financial disclosure form below must be completed at the time of abstract submission.

DEADLINE: Abstracts must be submitted by 5 p.m. EST on Monday, December 30, 2024. Submission of an abstract indicates permission to include it in program materials to be distributed for the conference. SELECTION PROCESS: A limited number of abstracts will be accepted based on conference space constraints and a competitive, blinded review process. Priority will be given to abstracts that address the conference theme or the College of Nursing's research foci on urban health and health equity.  Authors will be notified of acceptance by January 31, 2025.
